“Fashionable Dances and Dancing Fashions” is now open to the public. From the waltz craze to disco and beyond, the exhibit explores the interplay of fashion and dance and what people wore to perform the steps in the popular social dances. The exhibit runs through July 2, 2020. The clothing on display ranges from the early nineteenth century through the twentieth, accompanied by original dance-related paper ephemera and graphics. The steps, crazes and fads may change with the decades, but the role of dance in courtship, celebrations and entertainment remains constant. We invite you to come take a step into our gallery. A virtual tour of the display is now available at this link:
The exhibition is temporarily closed to visitors due to COVID-19. We will let you know when it has reopened, and we are currently planning to extend the exhibit’s run. Final closing dates to be determined.
