The FA&M’s grand opening would not have been complete without an inaugural exhibit in the new facility in Davis House. “Walking the Aisle in the Latest Style: Wedding Fashions from the Eighteenth Century to Today” was open to the general public through December 15, 2016. This large installation featured over fifty mannequins and five cases for wedding accessories. The exhibit included not only bridal dresses, but also displayed the clothing of bridesmaids, flower girls, underwear, and wedding night lingerie. Two significant loans were particularly noteworthy: a ca. 1760 grown from western England and a rare Gettysburg gown from 1863, the latter still in the possession of the descendants and never before exhibited. The hard-working students, staff, and volunteers of the FA&M invited all who were able to come to “our” wedding!
