Garibaldis, Engageantes & Cages: American Fashions of the Civil War Era 1840-1870

Garibaldis, Engageantes & Cages: American Fashions of the Civil War Era 1840-1870

This exhibit followed the fashions of those decades through exploration of the themes of courtship, marriage, underpinnings, maternity wear, children’s wear, seasonal dressing, period accessories, and mourning. For the first time, a Fashion Archives and Museum exhibit featured an accompanying catalog that included an original pattern drafted by Martha McCain from an object in the permanent collection. The catalog includes period photos, illustrations, and fabric close-ups.
