The first toy train consisted of a wind-up locomotive. The most impressive toy trains were built in Germany., and began Americans to build their own in 1900. The toy was at its height in popularity in the 1920s with the Lionel toy train. Through the 1940s and the 1950s Lionel toy trains dominated the Christmas magazines, and are still in production today.
