History:
In 1886, a carpenter and pattern maker by the name Alonzo F. Smith created the Spelling Board as a way to entertain and educate children in spelling and writing short sentences. The idea is to move the letters around the outside guidelines to the center line, spelling out a word or a sentence. This invention became one of the most successful spelling games for children.
